Gear ATAcademic Technologies (AT) at The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) is an organization that brings together smart, talented people from a diversity of backgrounds, who have expertise and passion for emerging technologies and research to improve teaching and learning at UTEP. In our four areas within our organization, we look for employees who are interested in using technology to solve some of the more interesting challenges experienced in teaching and learning:


Creative StudiosStaff in the Creative Studios area of Academic Technologies (AT) oversees the creation and administration of new Learning Management and Content Management systems. They design new web-based systems for online teaching and course content creation. Staff oversees all database design and development to assist in reporting and tracking of online course development, creation, and assessment. They design interfaces appropriate for upper level management reporting and data collection. Creative Studios’ staff coordinates, develops, implements, and facilitates the creation of technology-enhanced materials in support of mediated instruction. They organize and manage long and short-term projects involving multiple designers and programmers and conducts research necessary to remain current in instructional technology.


Learning EnvironmentsStaff in the Learning Environments area of Academic Technologies (AT) collaborate with all positions in AT to implement a wide range of emerging technologies alongside effective pedagogy. Staff oversee, coordinate, plan, implement, assess, and research in technology training, consumer technology, innovative technical solutions, event support, student computer lab environments, servers, streaming, and iOS/mobile app development among other technology projects. Much like the other areas in AT, Learning Environments staff utilize a team based-model, so individuals must be able to be a functional and be a fully integrated part of a team from communication skills to project management across all areas; possessing a diverse and highly developed technological skill set. Staff work as collective management in providing tutoring, mentoring, development and other related administrative duties as needed for a pool student-staff.
